T he Festival of Lights (in French: Fête des Lumières ) extends the traditional festival of the 8th December, when the residents of Lyon celebrate the Virgin Mary, whose statue stands on the Fourvière hill, overlooking the city. They put candle lamps on their window sills and balconies and wander the streets of the city. On the 8 September 1852, as the city was preparing to celebrate the installation of a statue of the Virgin Mary in the Chapel on the Fourvière Hill, the ceremony had to be abandoned as the River Saône was overflowing. Enlighting Ioannina

Luminous festival in Ioannina,that i had mensioned in a previous article , is a great exampe how art can transform and reenforce the tourism in a whole city. CENTRAL SQUARE OF IOANNINA – CHRISTMAS TREE | ARTIST: GIORGOS KEVREKIDIS [CHALKIDA,GREECE] The source of inspiration for the creation of the Christmas tree was the basic geometrical morphology of a typical Christmas tree forming an isosceles triangle as well as similar triangular forms connected to Christmas as the traditional iron triangles used to perform the carols in Greece. Moreover, as the artist explains, "my intention for the 3d work creation was to include in its design, except for the simplified minimalistic geometry, the idea of developing an organic form related to every phyla into the plant kingdom".
